Wildfire Aware | Fire Alerts 2.1

Wildfire Aware is a subscription-based service that offers near real-time alerts for wildfires in your chosen areas. Our alerts include fire weather information, providing you with immediate knowledge of temperature, wind, and relative humidity when a fire starts. We ensure that you receive authoritative updates from fire agencies directly to your phone, including watches and warnings issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) related to wildfires.

As part of our premium features, Wildfire Aware delivers near-real-time notifications of wildfires in areas that matter to you. Once a fire is dispatched by a participating agency of the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) anywhere in the United States, we promptly notify you. Our wildfire alerts are swift, supplemented with up-to-date fire weather information such as temperature, wind speed direction, and relative humidity at the time the fire begins.

In addition to providing notifications about perimeter updates, Wildfire Aware also furnishes you with authoritative supplemental agency data for fires that burn for days or even months. We source information from various reputable organizations such as NIFC, IRWIN, InciWeb, CAL FIRE, US Forest Service (USFS), Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Department of Interior (DOI), and Texas A&M Forest Service.

Understanding the significance of fire weather, we make sure that you stay informed by providing National Weather Service (NWS) alerts related to wildfires as they are issued. From fire weather watches and red flag warnings preceding a fire to flash flood warnings and watches following a fire, we keep you well-informed at every stage of a wildfire.

While wildfire alerting is our premium feature, our map also offers additional valuable information such as the ALERTWest (including ALERTCalifornia) camera network, updated details about fires, and FIRIS perimeters (California only) as they become available. We incorporate NASA VIRS and MODIS thermal hotspots as well as NOAA HMS Fire Detections. Access to the map is free of charge.

Although wildfire alerting is not yet available for Canada, we endeavor to provide as much equivalent information as possible for Canadian wildfires. The reported active fire locations, updated daily, are sourced from fire management agencies including provinces, territories, and Parks Canada. The national Data Integration Project (DIP) coordinated by the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre (CIFFC) and Natural Resources Canada manages the wildfire data in collaboration with partner agencies. Environment and Climate Change Canada issues public weather alerts regarding weather-related hazards, ensuring that individuals in affected areas can take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their property. These alerts are categorized based on severity and timing of the event and include warnings, watches, advisories, and statements.

At Wildfire Aware, our priority is providing information from authoritative sources as soon as it is published, rather than relying on radio traffic like Watch Duty. Whenever possible, we also provide links to the appropriate social media platforms for additional authoritative data. We are committed to delivering reliable and timely information to the public.

Our founder has first-hand experience surviving a deadly and destructive fire in 2020 and has spent 13 years working with CAL FIRE as a dispatcher and GIS specialist. This unique background enables Wildfire Aware to provide authoritative and vetted information, which is crucial during any wildfire event.
